Rochester Hills, MI – An 85-year-old woman from Troy died Tuesday after being involved in a three-vehicle car accident in Rochester Hills.
The accident happened around 6:16 p.m. at the intersection of Adams and Auburn roads. Mary Josephine Howe was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Adams Road and attempted to turn onto Auburn Road westbound. As the Impala entered the intersection and began to turn left, her car was struck by a 2015 Jeep Patriot being driven southbound on Adams Road by a 31-year-old female from Lake Orion.
Following the initial collision, the Jeep struck a third vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 28-year-old Pontiac woman. The Cruze was stopped at a traffic light on eastbound Auburn Road and was waiting to turn onto southbound Adams Road. Howe was taken to hospital by the Rochester Hills Fire Department where she later died of her injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was hospitalized with minor injuries. The third driver refused to seek treatment at the scene. The drivers all wore their seatbelts. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which is still being investigated by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit.
