New Orleans police released photos Monday night of four cars and two people they believe were involved in Sunday’s illegal stunts, prompting outrage from residents and city officials. Investigators are asking for help in locating those involved.
The New Orleans Police Department released footage of two unidentified individuals they say were caught on camera jumping on a marked New Orleans Police SUV and kicking it on foot at the intersection of Saint-Claude and Saint-Roch avenues as he crawled through hordes of people gathered to watch vehicles spin donuts and peel them on the street.
Investigators are also looking for a white 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, a red 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, a white 2017 Ford Mustang GT and a red 2015 Dodge Challenger that allegedly participated in the event in Saint-Claude. . Although they had obtained the cars‘ VIN numbers and knew who the vehicles were registered to, they had not located the cars as of 6 p.m. Monday.
The NOPD said the chaos that erupted at four intersections across the city was pre-planned on social media. Residents were outraged and city leaders pledged an aggressive response as the image of a city that had lost control of its streets emerged.
NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson told a press conference Monday that it appears the events were held outside of New Orleans and drew people from other states.
