Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles in Frederick County
(FREDERICK, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday night in Frederick County.
Shortly before 9:20 p.m. Friday, Maryland State Police Troopers Frederick Barrack responded to the area of U.S. Route 40 and Harmony Road in Frederick, Md., for a two-vehicle accident. According to a preliminary investigation, a Toyota Prius, driven by Donald Frederick Reineke, 89, of Frederick, Maryland, was traveling north on Harmony Road and attempting to cross U.S. Route 40.
At the same time, a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, driven by John Michael Hartman Jr., 40, of Frederick, Maryland, was traveling east on US Route 40 through the intersection on Harmony Road. The Chevrolet and the Toyota collided at the intersection. Reineke was pronounced dead at the scene. Hartman was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries.
The road was closed for about three hours after the accident. The Maryland State Police Crash Team will investigate this case.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
