Davenport accident that sent three children to hospital started with a call to West Lake Park | Local crime and courts
The accident that sent three children to the hospital began as a disturbance in West Lake Park, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived at the park for a report of a major disturbance at 7:13 p.m., according to a news release. A suspect fled the scene in a silver Equinox and a chase ensued but was called off.
The Equinox was spotted on West Locust Street and a traffic stop was issued at Locust and Brady, but the vehicle fled. It crashed in a park maintained by Genesis Medical Center on the northeast corner of East Locust Street and Eastern Avenue.
Police say the driver lost control and crashed onto the steps leading to the park maintained by Genesis. Witnesses said the impact forced the vehicle into reverse, with the rear of the vehicle coming to rest against the utility pole on the corner.
Witnesses said the adult male driver pulled the three children out of the vehicle and then fled on foot, leaving the children behind. The children were taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street with what police described as non-life threatening injuries by Medic EMS.
